In a recent interview with Hitfix, Alicia Vikander, who will be playing Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider movie, revealed some information about the film and also shared some of her history with the franchise.
In the phone interview, Vikander revealed that the movie will be based on the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot. Vikander noted that the film was “more of an origin story,” meaning moviegoers will hopefully get to know Lara Croft in “an in-depth way.” While based on the 2013 game, Vikander said that she hoped to bring something “new and fresh” that’ll stand on its own two legs.
During the interview, Vikander also talked about playing the original Tomb Raider and how excited she was to see a female protagonist in video games. “I, with the rest of the world,” she said, “was excited to see a female protagonist in a video game.”
Tomb Raider wasn’t the only other video game movie that she was asked to play a role in either. Hitfix revealed that Vikander was originally asked to be in Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie. However, she turned down the role because its production schedule conflicted with Jason Bourne’s, which is due to be released in cinemas next week.
