ARK: Survival Evolved – How to Make and Use Dye

We’ve been coloring things in since preschool, so it’s no wonder we enjoy doing it in video games, too. ARK: Survival Evolved lets you color creatures, other players, structures, items, and even yourself using dye. Sounds fun, right? So here’s how you can make and use dye.

First up, you’re going to need a Cooking Pot or Industrial Cooker in which you can make the dye. Next, you’ll have to gather the appropriate ingredients for the color you want. For every color, you will need water (a full Waterskin, Water Jar, or Canteen) and a fuel source (2 Charcoal, 1 Gunpowder, or 1 Sparkpowder). You’ll also need berries – specific numbers of berries in different combinations will yield different colors. Keep in mind that using different fuels can create different colors from the same berries.

Stick your ingredients into your cooking device, spark it up, and wait for the ingredients to cook. Each set will yield 5 dye.

To use your new dye on items, simply drag the color onto the item. You’ll have to do this multiple times to color every part of the piece. If an item doesn’t highlight green while doing this, it can’t be colored. If you’re looking to color structures or living things, you’ll need a Paintbrush or a Spray Painter. Load one of these with the color you want by dragging the dye onto it. The paintbrush lets you apply war paint, and will give you 10 clicks or paint charges – just click on something to color. The Spray Painter works similarly,

Now get out there and start coloring.
