2017 is looking to be a packed year for the PS4 with over 100 games set to release over the next 12 months, not to mention all the games yet to be announced or those that haven’t received release dates just yet. A surprising amount of those games happen to be exclusives, meaning you aren’t going to see them on any other console no matter how hard you look.
And these aren’t just a bunch of indie exclusives either (not that there’s anything wrong with those). There are some heavy hitters from AAA studios both first and third party. There are also a few notable console exclusives that the PS4 will be sharing with the PC.
It’s definitely going to be an interesting 12 months, and we can only imagine how crazy things will get as more games are added to the schedule.

Gravity Rush 2 - Jan. 20
Gravity Rush 2 once again puts players in control of Kat, the mysterious, gravity wielding heroine of the first game. The sequel drops players right where the previous entry left off as you help your friends, Raven and Syd, uncover the mystery behind a powerful gravity storm.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue - Jan. 24
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (say that five times fast) brings two fully playable games and a CG movie just like the previous compilations in the series (I.5 Remix and II.5 Remix). You'll get an HD remaster of Dream Drop Distance (previously only available on the 3DS), as well as a brand new adventure titled Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage. The movie is titled Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover.
Yakuza 0 - Jan. 24
While Japan received this title on both the PS3 and PS4, it will be a PS4 exclusive in the west when it finally releases on Jan. 24. Yakuza 0 is a prequel to the long-running series known for its intense combat and sometimes wacky humor.
Digimon World: Next Order - Jan. 31
Originally released back in March for the Vita (only in Japan), Digimon World: Next Order is making its way over to the west on the PS4 with drastically upgraded visuals and adjusted mechanics.
Nioh - Feb. 9
Nioh has been garnering a lot of attention thanks to its beautiful visuals and Souls-like gameplay. Players can see what all the fuss is about when it finally gets its full release on Feb. 9.
Horizon: Zero Dawn - Feb. 28
Guerilla Games' newest IP is an open world action game that has players exploring a world reclaimed by nature while dealing with robotic fauna. Using the brand new Decima engine, it will be interesting to see what feats this game can pull off on the PS4.
NieR: Automata - Mar. 7
NieR: Automata is an ARPG from Platinum Games being published by Square Enix. Its use of large, flashy fights, clever camera angles, and beautiful backdrops make it an interesting experience. While this title is confirmed to be heading to PC as well, the only confirmed release date is for the PS4 alone. The PC version is slated for a 2017 release as well.
Kingdom Hearts HD I.5 + II.5 Remix - Mar. 28
Kingdom Hearts' 15 year anniversary is approaching. To celebrate, Square Enix is releasing Kingdom Hearts I.5 and II.5 once again as a bundle on the PS4 so players can catch up on everything before Kingdom Hearts III releases in the future. There are six games to enjoy with four being playable and two as CG films. You'll get to play the Final Mix versions of both Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Re: Chain of Memories, and Birth by Sleep, with 358/2 Days and Re:Coded packaged as films.
MLB: The Show 17 - Mar. 28
Sony's very own officially licensed baseball sim is one incredible sports series. 2017's entry shines a spotlight on Ken Griffey Jr. as it introduces new challenges to its tight baseball presentation.
Dragon Quest Heroes II - Apr. 25
Dragon Quest Heroes II returns with the mix of Dynasty Warriors styled combat and the lore of Dragon Quest for huge battles, colorful visuals, and multiplayer mayhem.
Toukiden 2 - Q2
Set two years after Toukiden: Kiwami, Toukden 2 changes things up, offering an open-world approach, more fluid combat, and new abilities such as the Demon Hand (think supernatural grappling hook) and an improved sprint.
Wipeout Omega Collection - Summer
Wipeout Omega Collection will bring Wipeout HD, Wipeout Furty, and Wipeout: 2048 to PS4 next summer with all three classics running at 60fps in 4K and with HDR support. The collection will include nine modes, 46 ships, and 26 tracks.
Yakuza Kiwami - Summer
The first Yakuza game released on the PS2 over 10 years ago in September of 2006. Fans and newcomers will be able to revisit the classic in Yakuza Kiwami, a remake for the PS4 that not only improves all the technical aspects but adds new plot points and encounters as well.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy - TBA
Crash Bandicoot was thought dead for a long time, but thanks to a partnership between Sony, Activision, and Vicarious Visions, the original trilogy is being completely remastered for the PS4.
Knack 2 - TBA
Knack 2 brings more challenging combat and puzzle platforming that fans enjoyed in the first game that launched alongside the PS4.
Vane - TBA
Vane is an "atmospheric adventure" that tasks players with exploring mysterious lands as they uncover secrets and learn the meaning of the world around them.
PaRappa the Rapper Remastered - TBA
Kick! Punch! It's all in the Mind. Those words send anyone who ever had the pleasure of playing with a PS1 reeling back from all the nostalgia. In 2017, they'll be able to enjoy the rhythm-based fun on their PS4 as new fans get to discover the genius that was PaRappa the Rapper.
LocoRoco Remastered - TBA
This PSP classic from 2006 is also getting the remastered treatment. Players will guide LocoRocos through puzzling levels as the music grows with their progress.
Patapon Remastered - TBA
Patapon is yet another PSP classic getting some love in 2017. First released back in 2008, players must control a tribe of Patapon warriors using drums. There are different rhythms for different actions but they must all go with the beat, making this one of the more strategic rhythm games out there.
Nex Machina - TBA
Housemarque has created another over-the-top voxel shooter that will fill your screen with bright lights and explosions as you plow through thousands of evil robots across multiple stages in this top-down arcade shooter.
Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom - TBA
Level-5 returns with the followup to the critically acclaimed PS3 title, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Players will take control of a young King Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum this time around as he fights to take back his kingdom in this beautifully animated RPG.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy - TBA
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was yet another masterpiece from Naughty Dog, but they aren't done with this series just yet. The first DLC for the game, which is a standalone experience, will put players into the shoes of Chloe and Nadine as they endeavor to find the Tusk of Ganesh, a long lost legendary treasure.
Gran Turismo Sport - TBA
The next generation of the Gran Turismo franchise is almost upon us. It's a slightly different take on what players may recall from the series, but it looks to keep that accurate, racing simulation gameplay at its core.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age - TBA
Final Fantasy has been on a roll recently, and it hopes to continue that momentum with this remaster of Final Fantasy XII. It utilizes mechanics from Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System which was never released in the west as well as updates to balancing, speed, and other options.
Dark Rose Valkyrie - TBA
Dark Rose Valyrie is an RPG that that has you dealing with transforming enemies, traitors, and powerful threats that rise when the sun sets. This PS4 exclusive RPG is coming in 2017 from Idea Factory (Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force, Mary Skelter: Nightmares).
Persona 5 - Apr. 4
After several delays and envying our friends overseas who already have access to this highly-anticipated PlayStation exclusive, Persona 5 will finally be heading to the West on Apr. 4. Players will join the Phantom Thieves as they use their Personas to free hearts from corruption while uncovering a mystery in modern-day Tokyo.
Zero Escape: The Nonary Games - Spring
This PlayStation exclusive is a double pack that includes Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (999) and Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. The collection will let players to drop into the series' twisted puzzles and try to figure out who's really behind the dark Nonary Games.
Console Exclusives From This Point On
Those were all the PS4 only exclusives confirmed for 2017 thus far. However, there are still a few console exclusives that will release for both PS4 and PC. You won't be able to play the following games on Xbox One, Wii U, or, as far as we know thus far, the Switch, so we've included them for your perusal.
Tales of Berseria - Jan. 24
Tales of Berseria is the latest in the long-running JRPG series, and it’s actually set in the distant past of the same world featured in Tales of Zestiria. The title features a fast-paced action combat system that uses a new feature known as the “Soul Gauge” to give you special moves. Multiple playable characters and story skits are just a few of the Tales traditions that remain present in Berseria.
Double Dragon IV - Jan. 30
Double Dragon IV brings back the classic arcade beat-em-up action to the PS4 and PC in 2017. It was a surprise announcement, but one that has the nostalgia reaching a fever pitch.
Night in the Woods - Feb. 2017
This adventure game puts players in control of Mae, an owl who returns back to Possum Springs, who find herself in the middle of a supernatural mystery.
Birthdays the Beginning - Mar. 7
This sandbox game from Yasuhiro Wada, creator of Harvest Moon, has players creating worlds and experimenting with different mechanics such as temperature and geography to develop new lifeforms and entire ecosystems.
Strafe - Q1
Strafe is a first person shooter from Pixel Titans and Devolver Digital that has all the glam and charm of shooter from 1996. It's a fast paced, procedural shooter that is sure to tickle your nostalgia while giving you a rogue-like adventure to get lost in.
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles - Q2
Yonder is an interesting open-world game that tasks players with helping the people of a beautiful world. You won't be fighting hordes of enemies to help them, though. Instead you'll be farming, crafting, fishing, cooking, and more as you help the people find their happiness again.
Celeste - Q2/Q3
Celeste is the next game from Matt Thorson, the very same man who brought the world Towerfall. This time around, instead of dueling with friends you'll embark on a journey to climb a treacherous mountain full of threats and puzzles.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - TBA
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice sees players taking control of Senua herself as she fights through the underworld, facing the twisted nightmares born from her own mental illness and suffering. It comes from Ninja Theory (DmC, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West), a studio known for deep, character-driven narratives and insane action.
Hob - TBA
Hob will drop players into a beautiful world for an adventure full of puzzles and mystery as you try to figure out what's killing the planet around you and how you can save it.
Neopolis - TBA
Neopolis is an RTS that has you dealing with futuristic gangs instead of warring alien entities. It's set up as a much more accessible game, which may prove to be interesting as there aren't many easy games in the RTS genre.
Dreadnought - TBA
Dreadnought is what you get when you take a a class-based, competitive shooter but decide you want every one to have a full range of motion and to be flying in outer space.
Games of Glory - TBA
Games of Glory is a top-down action team shooter that drops players in a free-to-play arena with plenty of different heroes, abilities, and strategies to take advantage of, all in the pursuit of glory.
Nidhogg 2
Nidhogg was the ultimate dueling game, and it looks like it's only getting crazier with the sequel. If you've never participated in the hectic, intense, sometimes hilarious combat, of the first game, you're missing out on something great.
Pyre
Pyre is the next game from Supergiant Games, the studio that brought us Bastion and Transistor. It's different from its predecessors, though, in that it goes for a party based system that focuses on strategy as well as quick thinking to overcome the opposition, and will even include competitive multiplayer.
Rain World - TBA
Rain World is a twisted game from Videocult, published by Adult Swim Games, that puts players in control of a slug cat in a dark, scary world that has been devestated by floods. It's classified as a survival platformer, and is one of the more intriguing looking titles coming in 2017.
Sundered - TBA
Sundered is Thunder Lotus Games' next title after the critical success that was Jotun. Players will take on the role of Eshe as they move throw a terrifying world full of choices, procedurally generated areas, countless threats, and multiple endings.
Death's Gambit - TBA
Death's Gambit is a beautiful side-scrolling action-rpg that will test your skills with fast paced, strategic combat, and bosses that are so big some don't even fit the screen.
Sudden Strike 4 - TBA
Into real-time tactics but noticing there aren't many RTT games on the PS4? Sudden Strike will solve that issue for you later this year with scenarios that place you into war situations.
