Confused doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Just one day after the internet went crazy (in the good way) for Final Fantasy VII Remake following the latest trailer at PlayStation Experience, Square Enix released some information that made those fans go crazy once more (in the not-so-good way). According to their latest press release regarding the game, “Final Fantasy VII Remake will be told across a multi-part series.” This has led many fans to assume the game will be episodic, and the reaction has been divisive, to say the least.
Some are optimistic
FF7R releasing in multiple parts doesn't bother me. It means they can get the game out quicker and hopefully keep up quality.

Final Fantasy VII being episodic is totally fine. The game's a little different this time around. That could be cool.

Others, not so much
Episodic = linear in my opinion that's a major fun killer

Remember that part where I said I wanted Square to do to Final Fantasy IX what they are doing with Final Fantasy VII HD remake? Scratch it.

Not comfortable on this decision by Square to make this multi-episode release. I rather wait for it to be 100% done. https://t.co/lsiuYCIbKx

My thoughts on FF7 episodic.
1) This sucks
2) We're going to play anyways because we're dirty video sluts
3) Please have an overworld..

The Final Fantasy VII Remake will not be seeing a single penny of my money. I refuse this 'episodic' nonsense

Many are just dumbfounded and confused
So is the FF7 remake supposed to be Walking Dead style episodic or an FF13 like trilogy
— Justin (@GigawattConduit) December 7, 2015
What's going on? I hear the FFVII remake is now literally Hitler?

Then there are the fans upset with other fans who are upset
So weird to see people who were super excited yesterday suddenly spewing bile at such a vague press release.

Oh no, the Final Fantasy VII Remake is a "multi-part series" everyone speculate wildly before we actually know what this means!
— The Unigma (@Unigma) December 7, 2015
Others still just want clarification
Square, a request: please stop dropping huge bombs without accompanying details.

I will say mind that's a bizarre nugget of information to fart out unexplained at the fringe of a press release. What's the logic there?
— Alex Donaldson (@APZonerunner) December 7, 2015
Of course Square Enix predicted such apprehension in the E3 announcement trailer
