Valkyria Revolution definitely gives you a bit more control over the main character Amleth than previous entries have. In between battles and missions you’ll get the chance to run around the city of Elsinore, with plenty to occupy your time. Talking to citizens and your party members can give you more context on the story and how the people feel about the ongoing war.

At the same time, you’ll get chances to purchase materials to create new equipment, purchase items, and upgrade your characters and weapons. Besides talking to characters, most of this is what you could do in past Valkryia games, but being able to actually run around the city at your leisure certainly adds more to the experience of Valkyria Revolution.
