Star Wars Battlefront Guide: Beginner Tips for Surviving

Before you jump straight into the plethora of multiplayer modes that Star Wars Battlefront has to offer, it’s a good idea to get your feet wet by checking out the solo missions first. Not only do the Training, Battle, and Survival missions teach you the basic mechanics of the game, they also reward you with Credits, the in-game currency used to unlock weapons and Star Cards.

Considering that your character will start off with virtually no Star Cards at all, it’s a very good idea to collect as many Credits as you can so you can upgrade your repertoire of weapons as soon as you hit your first rank. When playing the solo missions, it’s a good idea to take a look at each star rank and the requirements for unlocking them. Hitting the higher tiered star ranks will give you more Credits.

Don’t Overheat Your Weapons

This may be a little hard to pull off when you’re in the heat of battle, but try to keep an eye on the red meter directly below your reticle when firing your weapon. If the red meter fills up, your weapon will overheat and you’ll have to wait for it to cool down before you can fire again. In other words, if your weapon overheats while you’re trying to shoot an enemy player, you’ll be a sitting duck.

If you tap the reload button in the hot zone, you’ll be able to speed up the cooldown process. Otherwise, you’ll usually have to wait a few extra seconds for the weapon to be usable again. The same goes for your Star Card abilities. Each of your abilities will have to cool down when you activate them, so make sure you only use them at the most opportune of moments.

Swap Between First and Third Person View

It’s tempting to play the entire game in first-person view, considering that it gives you much more accuracy and precision when aiming down the sights. However, considering the scale of the massively massive multiplayer maps in Star Wars Battlefront, it might not be such a good idea to play in just first-person mode the entire time. This limits your vision to only what is in front of you.

I suggest changing to third-person view whenever you’re running across a map, just so you’ll be able to look all around you and spot enemies that may be camping in sniper spots or trying to sneak up from behind you. Only swap back to first-person mode if you’re in a good shooting spot and need to snipe enemies at a distance.

Of course, this all boils down to personal preference, but keep in mind that being aware of your surroundings is always a good way of increasing your odds of surviving.

Get the Impact Grenade and Ion Torpedo

One of the first Star Cards you should definitely invest in is the Impact Grenade. It does a little less damage than the Thermal Detonator (another grenade), but it gets the job done in terms of catching your enemy off-guard and damaging multiple enemies at once. Since your Hand will be empty when your first start out in the game, the grenades will prove to be really helpful in terms of dealing damage in the field.

The Ion Torpedo is another Star Card you can get relatively early in the game. Think of it as a missile launcher that comes in handy when you’re dealing with an AT-AT, AT-ST, or other big vehicular powerhouses.

Again, remember that these Star Cards have to undergo a cooldown period each time you use them. Use them wisely to turn the tide of a battle.

Use Those Power-Ups

There are power-ups lying all over the maps in Star Wars Battlefront. Some of these could give you access to a Hero or Villain, or even some vehicular support, providing you with a serious edge in a fight. However, these power-ups usually only last a few seconds after picking them up, so make sure you activate them as soon as you grab them or they’ll have gone to waste.

Other less fancy, but equally effective, power-ups include turrets that will damage enemies that are close by. Fights in Star Wars Battlefront can get pretty intense, so make sure you snag them whenever they’re nearby.

Another good strategy you can employ is to use the power-ups to lure enemies into a trap. Since the power-ups are visible to both opposing teams, you’ll usually be able to catch one or two stragglers running for them if you’re crafty enough to hide.
