Everyone was surprised (but not really) at the announcement of a new God of War title at this year’s E3. The music from Bear McCreary, the slow reveal of Kratos being an older man with a beard, it was well-timed and perfect. Since then, the details on the next entry in the series are scarce; all we know is that the Ghost of Sparta has a son and that he’s somehow ended up in the time of the Vikings, trading in his Blades of Chaos for a single ax. The PlayStation Experience couldn’t be a better time to show off more of his upcoming title.

Sadly, that’s not the case. Aside from maybe a quick glimpse in the sizzle reel, Kratos and son were nowhere to be found at the conference. While the game still has a vague release date of next year, there’s no reason to at least acknowledge it concretely. God of War is one of their biggest franchises, so it’s more than a little surprising that it was absent.
