Hacking – No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky is all about space exploration and discovery. Since you’re out in space, poking around in its darkest corners, there’s no surprise that you’ll find yourself able to hack some of the advanced technology you come across.
Now, hacking in No Man’s Sky doesn’t work as it does in most other sci-fi games. You aren’t cracking some code, or solving some puzzle. All you’re doing is crafting a chip that allows you to bypass the security of whatever console you’re trying to crack. The item in question is called a Bypass Chip, and you can learn the recipe from an Alien or find it in some wreckage as you play. It’s simple to craft, requiring 10 Plutonium and 10 Iron to create.
Once you have one in your inventory, interact with the structure you wish to hack and you’ll be able to use the Bypass Chip to get in. Each console provides a different ability depending on what it is. Most computers will simply grant you access to a piece of information such as a new Alien Word or a Blueprint. If you use a Bypass Chip on a Beacon, however, you’ll be able to search for one location to appear on your HUD. This can be a Monolith (some type of alien relic that you can interact with), shelter, an alien location, and more.
There are also devices nearby most bases that allow you to instantly summon your Starship to your location. These also require a Bypass Chip, but it can save you a lot of time if you happened to have made a long journey to find the location you’re at (it can take upwards of half an hour to trek across some planets). Other than making your life a little bit easier, hacking hasn’t revealed itself to do much else in No Man’s Sky. Still, the ability to search the world for locations is useful considering that you still have several quintillion to go.
