Once you unlock the side op ‘Make Contact With Huey Emmerich,’ you’ll immediately be given access to the Serakh power plant, provided you’ve already completed you encounter with Quiet at the ruins. This mission isn’t exactly a walk in the park, but with a little patience and knowledge of the route you want to take, you’ll be able to get through this operation rather stealthily.

As soon as you drop at the landing zone and make your way to the power plant, crawl on the ground to avoid getting spotted by the guard with the searchlight. On the right side of the road, there’s a slope that leads up to a long metal platform, which you can use to enter the area undetected. Once you get past the searchlight, things get considerably easier. Aside from one or two guards patrolling the area up ahead, there’s very little standing between you and the small red door that lies at the northern end of the power plant.

Once you unlock the door, a cutscene will play, introducing you to Huey Emmerich. However, before you can extract him, he’ll be transported to a Soviet base nearby, thus beginning ‘Episode 12: Hellbound’, which is a main op. Carefully crawl your way back to the door you came in by, and Kaz will warn you about the presence of an enemy gunship. Just lay flat on your belly and keep crawling until you reach the door.

If you’re lucky, a sandstorm will come your way, masking you and your footsteps, and giving you an easier time getting out of the power plant. Simply exit the way you came, and call your horse so you can ride the rest of the way to the Soviet base.

This is where things get a little tricky. Not only are there the usual enemy sentries to deal with, you’ll also have to be careful of the gunship and watch out for the small bipedal tanks patrolling the base. Before you even enter the base, you should see a watchtower with a single guard up top. Interrogate him for the location of Huey Emmerich, and it’ll be marked on your map. Proceed to the base and scope out the area with your binoculars. I highly recommend using the Phantom Cigar to wait till nightfall before making your way into the base. Your chances of detection will be much lower and, trust me; you do not want to be caught by the bipedal tanks.

Enter the base from the left side of the compound. Continue to crawl on your belly and you should be safe from the two bipedal tanks standing guard on the road. Keep to the left for the path of least resistance until you eventually reach the large building with a vault roof – that’s where Huey is being held. However, the doors at the back of the building are all locked. You’ll have to enter through the door facing the east, with a guard standing right outside. Take him out with your tranquilizer gun and enter.

After a quick cutscene, you’ll have the option of either leaving the base with Huey on your back, or by taking the Walker Gear. I recommend using the Walker Gear simply because it’s much faster, and even if you get spotted by enemies, it won’t matter much once you reach the landing zone because you’ll have to face a much tougher foe.

After yet another cutscene at the landing zone, you’ll come face to face with the brand new Metal Gear Sahelanthropus for the first time. You can’t fight it right now, so don’t waste your rockets and grenades. Leave the Walker Gear behind, carry Huey, and start ducking behind cover to avoid the Metal Gear’s bullets. Kaz will pinpoint the next landing zone on your map, which should be about 200 meters away from your location. The catch is, you’ll have to lose the Metal Gear before the chopper can land to get you out.

I recommend keeping to the left of the road, as there are more rocks for you to take cover behind. When the Metal Gear starts shooting in no direction in particular, make use of that opportunity to cross the road over to where the landing zone is. Once you’ve done that, all you’ll have to do is stay in cover and wait for the Metal Gear to leave before the chopper can make its landing. Simply crouching behind the tall rocks with Huey on your back should do the trick.

Once the chopper descends, quickly hop on with Huey, but don’t relax just yet. The Metal Gear will spot you again, and you’ll have to use the gattling gun to fend it off before you can make your escape. This isn’t too difficult; simply aim at the Metal Gear’s head and keep firing, and you’ll be done in no time at all.

After that, you’ll be taken back to Mother Base, and Huey Emmerich will be sent in for questioning.
