How to Melee Attack – Horizon Zero Dawn

Recommended Videos

While Aloy’s bow tends to be the star of the show in Horizon Zero Dawn, she does have another weapon available to use in combat from the very start of the game. Her spear can be used for both light and heavy attacks, and is also incredibly useful for taking care of machines with an up-close melee attack.

To melee attack in Horizon Zero Dawn, you’ll be using the R1 and R2 buttons. Pressing R1 will allow you to perform a light attack. This will deal a small amount of damage, but it’s fast, allowing you to roll out of danger if necessary. Pressing R2 will perform a heavy attack. This takes a little longer for Aloy to wind up, but if it lands, it can deal some decent damage to smaller enemies. It’s also worth noting that performing a heavy melee attack in Horizon Zero Dawn can remove the armor off some machines, lowering their defense and allowing you to deal more damage.
