Ghost of Tsushima Reveal
The 5 Biggest Announcements from Sony’s Paris Games Week 2017 Conference
It’s been four years since Sucker Punch’s last game, Infamous: Second Son, and nearly a decade since the developer debuted a new IP. Sony’s Paris Games Week conference opened with the spectacular reveal of this latest project, Ghost of Tsushima, an open-world Samurai-themed exclusive for PS4. The trailer-reveal showcased what would appear to be a game set in the era of the Mongol invasion of Japan, with players taking control of a lone Samurai protagonist vowed to stop it. The trailer suggests the game will feature melee and ranged combat, but that’s about all we have so far.
Based on Sucker Punch’s track record with open-world superhero games that focus on traversal and special abilities, we’re fascinated to see how that transfers to a Samurai game in a more grounded and realistic setting. The first two Infamous games, in particular, were also exceptionally well-written, which inspires confidence that Ghost of Tsushima’s narrative is also likely to be a standout feature.
