Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is yet another awesome strategy game that Ubisoft put out this year, and our choice for the best one this year. It took the XCOM style of gameplay and brought with it a world of wonder and color and rabbids. Look, any game that gave us Rabbid Peach should be game of the year contender automatically, but in this case, Mario + Rabbids legitimately is an awesome strategy game. It’s got actual difficulty, it brings the strategy on the go with the Switch, and it has such a bright and happy style to it that it’s impossible not to smile while playing.
It’s a lot simpler than XCOM, so it’s definitely got a wider appeal. However, the game isn’t easy. Don’t let its childish demeanor fool you. It’s great for all ages. Because of its ability to bring the style made popular by a very niche title, it deserves the recognition as the greatest strategy game to release this year, hands-down. In a year with a lot of competition for this title, Mario + Rabbids (and Rabbids Peach) truly brings it.
