The Overwatch League’s second stage is about to begin, and it brings with it a new way for fans to interact with and support their favorite teams. According to a post on the official League website, the League is partnering with Twitch for “Overwatch League Cheering”.
Viewers will be able to support their team of choice simply from Twitch chat by Cheering with Bits, a virtual currency used exclusively by the streaming site. For every 100 Bits cheered, one of 26 hero Twitch emotes will be rewarded. For every 150 Bits cheered to a specific team, that team’s emote will be received.
The post also mentions Cheering milestones tiered by individual, team-based, and global objectives that can unlock more emotes, unique Overwatch League skins and more in the future.
Finally, the post mentions that viewers will be able to track their cheering milestone progress on the Overwatch League Twitch channel. To claim all of these rewards, viewers must have their Twitch account linked with their Blizzard Battle.net account.
While the Overwatch League has already had stellar viewership throughout its first stage, these reward systems should help fans feel a little more involved while watching their favorite teams duke it out over the course of the remaining three stages. The League Cheering system is live today, just in time for the first game of Stage 2.
