Show Inspired by Ghost of Tsushima Will Air on Japanese TV Next Week

Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima has been developed by a western studio, but it’s certainly quite popular in Japan as well.

Japanese people tend to enjoy seeing their history and culture celebrated around the world, and Ghost of Tsushima is no exception.

On Saturday, Nov. 21 (at 9:00 local time) TBS will air the 1576th episode of the popular “Sekai Fushigi Hakken!” (Discover the World’s Mysteries) show, and it’ll be explicitly inspired by the game.

The program will see actress Yui Kitamura explore the real island of Tsushima showcasing its beauty and mysteries.

Kitamura-san mentions on the official page of the show that playing video games is one of her hobbies she loved Ghost of Tsushima. It was recommended by a friend who she knows has good taste in games, and soon after she was hooked.

While she already liked samurai games, most of them are set in the Sengoku Jidai, so playing one set in the Kamakura period felt refreshing and she was charmed by the beautiful graphics. The depiction of the samurai felt very realistic and she even cried twice while playing.

While filming the program, she explored the island, rode a native Taishu horse (it was her first time on horseback, but she was excited to do it since horses play an important role in the game), and even visited a shrine on a kayak.

We’ll also see trekking to the shrine on top of Mount Shiratake and a visit to Takashima, in Nagasaki prefecture, where many relics of the Mongol invasion are preserved and a ship was semi-recently discovered laying on the seabed.

Incidentally, if this wasn’t cool enough, the narrator for the program will be Akio Otsuka, whom you may know as the voice of Solid Snake.

While the program will be aired on TV, so it’ll be difficult to watch live unless you live in Japan, we can likely expect it to pop up on YouTube soon, as there are several channels that post recordings.
