As expected, Ubisoft has today revealed the very first gameplay of its upcoming open-world action game, Far Cry 6. Today’s trailer showcased over 10 minutes of gameplay, giving us an introduction to the story, Caribbean setting, character customization, and explosive combat. It also confirmed a release date for later this Fall, Oct. 7.
Narrative director Navid Khavari is on hand to explain the game’s setting and premise. Players will take control of Dani Rojas as he or she (depending on the player’s choice) attempts to free the island of Yara from the grips of a tyrant President named Antoine Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), in an epic guerrilla war.
Throughout the showcase, we see some familiar mechanics, including vehicles, outpost retakes, progression mechanics, and a huge arsenal of deadly weapons available for players to wreak havoc. As is typical of the series, players are set to encounter a bunch of quirky personalities as they seek to forge new alliances across Yara in their bid to free its people from oppression.
Oh, and there’s a little doggie companion, too — though he isn’t quite what you’ll be expecting! We’ll leave the surprise for you in the two trailers below.
The first focuses on main protagonist Dani Rojas:
The second takes a deep dive into gameplay:
