How Many Hearts You Need to Get the Master Sword in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has a ton of new distractions to entice players away from the main story and the Divine Beasts. Alongside the 120 + shrines and seemingly endless amount of Korok Seeds and a bunch of side quests, the good ol’ Master Sword is tucked away, waiting to be reclaimed by the Hero of Time. You can’t just get it from the very beginning, though. You’ll actually need a certain amount of hearts to withstand the drain of the Master Sword.

Before making your way to the center of The Lost Woods in Breath of the Wild (we’ve got a guide on how to get the sword here), you’ll need to make sure you’ve got 13 full hearts. If you don’t, the struggle of pulling the Master Sword from the ground will kill Link. These need to be permanent hearts, too. Nothing temporary from eating tasty meals. So be sure to invest your Spirit Orbs from completing shrines into these whenever you get four. You’ll also get a heart container for beating each Divine Beast, so be sure to take a couple of these down if you’re really struggling with the shrines.
