How to Get Warm Clothes – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The climate can easily become Link’s downfall in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You’ll get your first taste of this truth early on when exposed to the cold temperatures of Mount Hylia and its surrounding areas. Without warm clothes and some spicy recipes, you’ll watch as Link grows cold, shivers, and eventually dies a less than honorable death. While those spicy recipes can certainly help for shorts spurts of time, it’s the warm clothes that will make the bigger difference, as they can completely negate any effects the lower temperatures have.

The first piece of warm clothes you’ll come across while playing is the Warm Doublet. This tunic has low-level cold resistance which completely cancels all cold damage in the earlier areas in the game. You can obtain it from the Old Man in one of two ways. One is to head to the top of Mount Hylia, where he’ll reward you with the item for making the climb without the proper attire. The second is to complete his recipe and give him some food during the night at his cabin that can be found south of the Temple of Time. You’ll need Raw Meat, Spicy Peppers, and Hyrulian Bass to make his Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry.

The second set of Warm Clothes will raise your cold-resistance significantly with each piece. A full set will make you completely immune to all degrees of freezing temperatures. It’s called the Snowquill set and it can be bought from a merchant in Rito Village. There are three pieces:

  • Snowquill Headdress – 1,000 Rupees
  • Snowquill Tunic – 600 Rupees
  • Snowquill Trousers – 550 Rupees

You can also keep your eyes peeled for any random clothing items that state they raise your cold-resistance for more warm clothes.
