While you’re able to cultivate and farm certain plants, Birch trees sadly aren’t one of them. Only Beech Trees are able to be planted and cultivated.

Of course, there are Ancient Seeds, too, but those are actually used to summon a boss rather than plant a tree.

Given that Valheim is still in Early Access, it’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibility that farming trees using tree seeds wouldn’t be added to the game. For now, though, you’re stuck with having to travel to and from wooded areas in order to get your Wood, Fine Wood, and Core Wood.
