The launch of Super Mario Odyssey marks the arrival of yet another iconic Nintendo franchise to Switch’s excellent year-one library. Standing alongside The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, two of Nintendo’s best-known characters have now appeared in two critically acclaimed new games on the system. But whereas the launch of Breath of the Wild coincided with the console’s launch line-up, Odyssey hits store shelves well into its first year. Yet there are still plenty of Nintendo fans that haven’t been able to get their hands on a Switch due to its scarce availability, and those individuals will surely want to know whether Super Mario Odyssey is coming to the Wii U console, as did Breath of the Wild.

Unfortunately, Nintendo has announced no plans to do so. Super Mario Odyssey launches as a Switch exclusive, only available on the company’s latest hardware. If you’re a Mario fan, either on the fence about purchasing a Switch or have not been able to find one, we’re sorry to tell you that the console is necessary to play the game.
