How to Get Survivors with Empty Skill Slots in State of Decay 2

Some of your facilities at your home base in State of Decay 2 will sometimes require that you have a survivor with a particular skill. This could be Computers, Electronics, or even Mechanics. Fortunately, just because your survivors don’t know those skills when you find them, doesn’t mean you’re completely screwed just yet. State of Decay 2 has textbooks that your survivors can learn skills from… that is, if they empty skill slots. At least one, anyway. As such, this can make upgrading your Command Center or other facilities particularly tricky in State of Decay 2, and some players may be wondering how to get survivors with empty skill slots so you can finally put those textbooks to use.

Survivors with empty skill slots, sadly, seem to be random in State of Decay 2. However, we did find that once we needed to upgrade our Command Center and required someone with Computer/ Programming skills, searching for new survivors from your Radio (press Up on the d-pad and select the action) provided us with a new Enclave. And it just so happened that one of the members of the Enclave had the skills we needed. This may have been luck, but it did seem somewhat coincidental. We still needed to provide the Enclave with some resources to get them on our community’s side, but once that was done it was as simple as walking over to the Survivor, pressing Y, and asking them to join your community.

Survivors do come with empty skill slots in State of Decay 2, and if you get the option to pick one at the start of the game, you absolutely should. Failing that, and if you have no luck with the Enclaves, you’ll want to help out stranded survivors as these quests come up. They won’t always be willing to join your community, but some will and we found a few survivors with empty skill slots this way, too.

That’s all you need to do to get those pesky survivors with empty skill slots. Sadly, there’s no other surefire way as far as we know so far. For more on State of Decay 2, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
