The boss battle will start out simple enough with your having to avoid beams that are being fired at you in the ‘Target Mode.’ Simply move up and down to avoid the beams in order to stay alive. Once the beams are out of the way, you can then start dishing out the damage to Andross himself.

When facing off against him, you should notice that he has two orange/red dots on his hands. These are his weak points and are where you’re going to want to aim all of your attacks for now in order to deal damage. Once you’ve hit one of these weak spots enough, one of his hands will disappear and you’ll go back to having to avoid the beams in ‘Target Mode.’ Once you’ve finished evading them, look for a blue platform on your Gamepad, and then go through in Walker form.

Just like before, focus all of your firepower on Andross’ weak point on his hand. You can make this easier by locking on to Andross with ZL, and then combine some evasive maneuvers with shots to his hand. Be wary, though, during this stage, Andross will have the ability to use a tractor beam to grab you and draw you close. If this does happen, relentlessly blast away at the weak spot as you start being drawn in and fly to safety when it lets go. Once you’ve destroyed the hand, head back outside and continue to dodge more beams. Enter back inside through a blue platform when it’s all done.

Now that Andross has no hands left for you to destroy, you’ll be taking on his head. Again, use ZL to lock on and focus all of your firepower on the inside of his mouth, which, of course, can only be hit when his mouth is open. Andross has a couple of moves he will use during this stage, the first of which is spitting chunks of debris at you. It’s at this point that you’ll get most of your damage in. Simply continue to fire at the weak spot as you dodge from side to side, avoiding the incoming projectiles.

Andross may also perform a head charge. You’ll be able to read this coming a mile off as his head will stay still briefly, before charging forward toward you. Dodge out of the way as you see the head stay still to avoid taking some hefty damage.

The final move that Andross will use against you is a beam that he fires around the room at you. This beam will come at you at different heights and so you’ll need to either hover above it or drop back to the ground as you see it rising.

Once Andross has gone through all three of these moves, he’ll get dizzy and will be out of action for a little while. Turn back into Arwing mode and boost your way across to the other side of the room. Turn back into the Walker mode and use ZL to point towards Andross and the huge red weak point on the back of his head. Perform this two or three times and Andross will be defeated… or so you think.

Finally, Andross will chase you down into a portal tunnel as you try and escape from Venom. All you have to do here is wait for him to move his head slightly as if he’s aiming an attack. When you see him doing this, move to the other side of the portal tunnel and avoid the attack. Do this a couple of times and you’ll have successfully defeated Andross. Congratulations, you’ve just completed Star Fox Zero!
