Pokemon Sun and Moon – Getting and Using Exp Share
The Exp Share item is making a return in Sun and Moon. You won’t get the item right off the bat, but you can obtain it fairly early on in the game by following the story. Once you’ve acquired your starter Pokemon and visited the professor at his research lab, the story will take you to the Trainer’s School in town. Here, you’ll be tasked with defeating four student trainers in the school.
Before you start the challenge, however, the professor will hand over the Exp Share item. When you have this activated, your main Pokemon (the one used to finish off an enemy) will receive 100% experience, while the rest of the ones in your party will receive half that amount. This is a great way to cut down the grinding process, especially if you’re planning on swapping different Pokemon into your party frequently. If you’re planning on going through the entire game with just a static party of six, this experience sharing system probably won’t matter as much to you.
The Exp Share effect can be activated or deactivated anytime by heading into your items menu and selecting it.

More on EXP Share
Exp Share, or experience share, has been around since the very beginning of Pokemon. It’s been the easiest way to ensure your team of pocket monsters stay at least partially close to each other’s level. Without it, the game becomes much harder and way more intense in the grinding department. It has always been given to you by someone that’s developed it, and it ensures that you won’t lose your absolute mind spending way more time than you have to, grinding up a storm. No, with it turned on, you can catch whoever you want and not put them through near death experiences just to get them to level up.
