How to Get Forlorn Necklaces in Nier Replicant

There’s only one way to get Forlorn Necklaces in Nier Replicant, and that’s via item drops by the magic-spewing Shades.

These Shades have thin upper bodies and very wide thighs, and spray an absurd number of magic balls as their primary attack. They can be found most readily in the second half of the game, in both the Northern Plains and the Lost Shrine.

However, it’s worth noting that the chances of this shade dropping resources is extremely rare. It has a much higher chance of dropping a Recovery Potion or Magic Capsule. Even if it does drop a resource item, there’s an equal chance of it dropping a Broken Earring or a Forlorn Necklace.

To that end, you should expect to spend a lot of time farming these enemies for item drops. Make sure you have the highest level Mah word in your possession applied to both your weapons and magic for an increased Item Drop rate, and find a place where you can farm these enemies quickly and efficiently.

We found the roof of the Lost Shrine to be the best location. There are two close by to the rooftop temple entrance, and you can exit and re-enter the area to cause the Shades to quickly respawn.

Will Changing the Difficulty Alter the Item Drop Rate?

Oh, and just in case you were wondering: Changing the difficulty won’t increase your chances of getting a Forlorn Necklace in Nier Replicant.

While this might have been the case in the original game, there is currently no proof that doing so impacts how often enemies drop valuable items. This means that you’ll have the same chance of getting this resource on Easy, Normal, and Hard.
