How to Open Blue Chests in Ni No Kuni 2
Ni No Kuni 2 is a game full of weapons, armor sets, items, and resources. Some of them are readily available, others require you to research and farm them back at Evermore. The very rarest of these items and resources are often found in the Dreamer’s Mazes. But not all of them are so difficult to find. In fact, they’re hiding in plain sight – except you can’t quite get to them. We’re talking about the blue chests, of course. You’ll have seen these from the very start of the game, as you’re first given the opportunity to traverse the Rolling Hills region of its world map. Frustratingly, though, each blue chest you encounter is locked and can’t be open. And unless you know how, you might actually go through the entire game without opening a single one.
So, how do you open these pesky chests? Well, it’s going to take time. That’s because you are required to learn a spell called Spring Lock from the Evermore Spell Works, and this can only be researched once your Spell Works is at Level 3. It is, therefore, a good idea to try and get this particular building upgraded as soon as possible. This will necessitate that Evermore has reached a kingdom level of 3 – no easy task, but one that’s essential to progressing the main storyline anyway. The long and the short of upgrading to kingdom level 3 – and thereby unlocking the ability to upgrade to Spell Works level 3 – is to recruit as many citizens as possible. You can read our recommendations for speeding that process up here.
