Monster Hunter Stories 2: How to Fill Up the Kinship Gauge

Developed and published by Capcom, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a story-focused JRPG with traditional turn-based combat. Unlike the mainline series, here you’ll be fighting monsters in a slower-paced setting, but you’ll still be able to do things like break off monster parts to craft equipment. Because of this shift in gameplay, some of the mechanics might feel a bit obtuse. Here’s how to fill up the Kinship gauge in Monster Hunter Stories 2.

Filling Up the Kinship Gauge in Monster Hunter Stories 2

The Kinship gauge is indicated at the bottom of the battle screen by a blue orb. When it fills up, you’ll be able to ride your Monstie and use a powerful Kinship skill. However, filling it up takes a bit of time and strategy on your part.

During battle, the gauge will fill up whenever you and your Monstie are basically in sync with each other. This means that if you both use the same type of attack in a turn (Power, Technical, Speed), you’ll be able to pull off a Double Attack that adds to your Kinship gauge.

You don’t have direct control of your Monstie, which means that you need to be aware of what attacks your Monstie is prone to using, then use that same attack type to match up with them.

This can be especially tricky when you come up against tougher enemies; a Monstie that likes using Speed attacks, for instance, won’t be effective against one that uses Technical attacks. And if you want to exploit your foe’s weakness by using a Power attack, it’ll be hard to get in sync with your Monstie to fill up that Kinship gauge.

With that in mind, it’s a good idea to gather as many Monsties as possible for your party so that you’re always able to swap between them when the need arises.

The Kinship gauge will glow a bright blue when it’s filled up, allowing you to ride the Monstie and deal more damage to enemies.

That’s all you need to know about how to fill up the Kinship gauge in Monster Hunter Stories 2. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
