Always Exploit Weaknesses
The ship and ground combat are the highlights of Halcyon 6. As you progress further in the game, you’ll find that enemy units will have more and more health, and it will become increasingly difficult to take them down with your usual shooting tactics. This is where weaknesses come into play. Make sure to familiarize yourself with every ability that your officers have, and learn what weaknesses they can inflict onto your enemies. Weaknesses can then be exploited by different attacks. For instance, your tactical officer might have an attack that inflicts Engines Down, and you can then use your engineer officer to use an attack that exploits that particular weakness for extra damage.
Don’t just look at the damage output value next to each of your attacks. It is a lot more efficient to exploit weaknesses, and it’s advisable too, as you don’t want your space battles to get dragged out for too long.
Explore Systems to Collect Resources
In order to expand your starbase and build more powerful ships, you’ll need to collect resources. Resources can seem pretty scarce at first, but if you take the time to explore the little systems in your circle, you can deploy colonists there, and they’ll collect resources for you. Each system in Halcyon 6 will provide you with different types of resources: crew, materials, fuel, and dark matter. Fuel is probably the least important, as you can always go back to base to refuel your ships. You’ll want to focus on the other three types of resources to make sure that you always have enough to build new equipment.
Whenever you see an exclamation point next to a system you’ve already visited, that means the storage capacity is full, and you should head there ASAP to collect your rewards. Aliens will also occasionally attack your systems. Keep an eye out for them, and defeat them when they draw near.
Have a Balanced Team Composition
It’s best to have a fleet of officers with abilities that can complement each other. A balanced team would usually comprise of a tactical officer, an engineering officer, and a science officer. The science guy is usually equipped with support abilities that can heal up your hull HP, and provide your fleet with nano shields. Your engineering officer has some reinforcement abilities too, but the engineering and tactical officers are more geared towards offense.
Never leave your base without a science officer who can heal you, and you should do just fine in your ship battles.
Check Back With Tech Research
Make sure to visit your Tech Research room frequently to see if you can build better facilities like ship hangars. If you’re able to build a higher tier ship hangar, you’ll be able to build better ships for your officers. You can also unlock ship and cadet upgrades through Tech Research, and this is the key to making your fleet even stronger as time passes. The cadets might seems like a waste of resources at first, but they can be really helpful if you need ground forces to fend off the aliens lying dormant in your base. I advise looking into the cadets once you’ve gotten comfortable with your current officers.
You’ll also need to make sure you have enough power in your starbase to keep all of your facilities running. Be sure to return to the base frequently to make sure that you have all of the best facilities in tip top shape.
Save Your Game Frequently
Halcyon 6 can become pretty unforgiving as you progress further in the game. Once your starbase gets attacked by raiders and you fail to get back there in time, your base will be destroyed, and it’ll be game over with no continues. Unless you reload a previous save, of course. While the game does feature an autosave system, I highly recommend saving your game before you make any big moves, like attacking a really powerful pirate fleet or dismantling your existing ships.
If anything goes wrong, at least you’ll still have that backup save file you can load up again.
