Play With Others
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
Fortnite will give you the option to go it alone throughout your zombie-filled adventure but, quite frankly, we wouldn’t recommend it. Not in the later stages of the game anyway. In the beginning, the game can be deceitfully easy. This may lure you into a false sense of security that makes you feel like Fortnite is a game that can be conquered without the aid of others. This way you won’t be sharing any precious resources you come across and you’ll get to build the fort exactly how you want it.
Don’t let those selfish thoughts send you to an early grave in Fortnite. While the beginning of the game is pretty easy, the introduction of Mist Monsters and larger hordes of enemies makes the buddy system crucial. You’ll want to team up with others to have a well-rounded set of skills available from different hero classes and also have more than one player around to keep an eye on your defenses when some missions start trying to pull you away from the point you want to defend.
Don’t Waste Traps in the Beginning
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
Unless you’re using the solo method you really don’t need to use any of your traps in the beginning. With four people on the map, you’ll often start feeling like there just aren’t enough husks to go around. A full team will leave husks obliterated before they get anywhere near your defenses. While a husk or two might eventually slip in and start tapping away at the walls of your fort, they aren’t strong enough to break down your barriers before at least one player is able to handle them.
Instead of using traps here, just hold on to the ones you want and keep a full inventory of them for the double digit stages. By then you’ll start needing some extra defenses in place even with a full team on board. Hordes of husks will attack more than one side at a time and the enemies become strong enough to do some serious damage to you and your defenses.
Always Make Time to Explore
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
Don’t get too eager to run through the missions you see listed for you to complete in Fortnite. You’ll want to make sure you’re taking the time out to search the map for a few different reasons. For one, you may stumble upon other missions that will give you some pretty good bonus drops. The main thing, however, is that you’ll want to explore the map searching for rare crafting materials and treasure chests.
If you simply run through the missions without any exploration time you’ll quickly find yourself struggling to craft enough ammo, upgrade your weapons or even have your hero level up as quickly as they could have been if you spent a little more time exploring a new zone and demolishing more husks.
Building Isn’t Just For Your Fort
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
The building tutorial specifically focuses on your ability to create awesome defenses about a central point. You can create a fort, add defenders, toss out a few traps and let the fun times begin. If you really do a fort right you won’t even have to do much work yourself in Fortnite, but there’s obviously not much fun in that. What you’ll also want to remember though is that you can enter the building menu anywhere on the map and that’s because you’ll certainly find uses for these abilities even when you’re not focused on a fort.
Sometimes you might be separated from the team when you stumble upon an angry group of husks and you need to throw down a trap or quickly build a few low walls to create a bit of a buffer between you and the enemy. In other cases, you may want to reach a high ledge and will need to build some stairs or a small tower to get to places that were once out of reach. So don’t hesitate to use your building skills even if you aren’t working on the fort itself.
You Really Shouldn’t Be Dropping Weapons
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
Fortnite gives you the option to drop weapons if you need to make space in your inventory but dropping weapons should truly be a rare occasion. There are simply too many alternatives to just dropping a weapon that can be of far greater use to you. Instead of just dropping weapons, consider recycling them.
Recycling weapons will allow you to free up space while also rewarding you with some useful crafting materials like blast powder. Another great option is to make sure you’re using the weapons you don’t want to fill up your collection book. Filling up the collection book in Fortnite rewards you with tons of goodies like V Bucks, rare crafting materials, new schematics, llamas and so much more.
Don’t Ignore Tutorial Missions
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
Fortnite is a game that is more than happy to send you on missions and side quests with little to no explanation as to what is going on. New features will unlock as you progress through the game and, yet again, there will be little to no explanation about what it is and why it’s important to you.
With that being said, take advantage of the few times when the game actually tries to walk you through something. Tutorial missions can seem like a waste of time in some games but not in Fortnite. Even if you aren’t completing the missions for the sake of the knowledge, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on all the goodies that come your way after you complete a tutorial mission.
Prioritize Nodes on the Skill Tree
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
While the early stages of the skill tree are pretty straightforward, the tree eventually branches off into a variety of different sections. Instead of blindly following the tree in hopes of eventually unlocking every node, you should really focus on what nodes mean the most to you.
You should consider unlocking the Leadership Skill for each class of heroes and after that, you should look down the road and see what kinds of nodes you’d be working towards in each section. If these perks are for a class that you don’t really prefer to play it might not be worth using your skill points in that particular section.
Destroy Walls
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
Fortnite gives you the freedom to destroy almost anything you see in the game and you should absolutely take advantage of that, especially when it comes to walls and floors inside of homes. It turns out that the families in these suburbs really like to have secret rooms to put their treasure chests in. Don’t ask us why, but they do.
If you hack away at some of the walls inside a home, especially in the basements, you will find a hidden room that you wouldn’t have had access to otherwise. These rooms often have treasure or a variety of valuable resources inside.
Don’t Ignore Any Hero Class
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
You will certainly have the freedom to prioritize certain hero classes in Fortnite but keep in mind that this is a game that encourages you to utilize more than just one class. You don’t want to find yourself in more difficult parts of the game without a solid Constructor or Outlander at your disposal. These two classes, in particular, have a lot to offer in terms of utility.
As for your Ninja and Soldier class heroes, these are the ones you’ll really want to turn to if your team needs some extra offensive power. So while you certainly don’t need to spend time grinding it out with every hero class, you also don’t want to focus all of your time and attention on one class alone. It will definitely cause problems for you later in the game.
Be Patient With the Game
Tips and Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite
In all honesty, Fortnite is a game that can feel pretty slow and overwhelming at the very beginning. Mowing down zombie hordes seems far too easy and the real challenge is just trying to figure out how to navigate through a pretty cluttered user interface that feels anything but intuitive. It can all be a little frustrating and it might be enough to convince you to walk away from Fortnite completely. Don’t let this push you away.
Once you finally start to find your way around the game and the difficulty of the monsters starts to ramp up, Fortnite starts to feel like a more well-rounded experience, and will likely hook you in more than you first thought possible.
