Everything You Need to Know About Fortnite’s Survive the Storm Update
A new storm is rolling into Fortnite on August 29 and it’s bringing some exciting new content along for a limited time. Fortnite’s first major update is called Survive the Storm and it’s offering a variety of new content for its current players. But if you want to get your fair share of the goodies, you’ll have to work for it. By work for it, we really mean you’ll have to survive the storm. This may sound like an easy task but this won’t be like the storms you have encountered in the past. In terms of both strength and frequency, these storms will present a unique challenge that will truly put your skills to the test. If you have been skating by with the use of stellar forts and lackluster weapons, or vice versa, you may want to take the next few days to become a more well-rounded commander before Survive the Storms rolls around. If you really want to survive the storm, you’ll need to be prepared on all fronts. Here’s everything you need to know to prepare for the storm.
Expect New Heroes and Defenders
Everything You Need to Know About Fortnite’s Survive the Storm Update
Fortnite is a game that thrives off the use of its wide variety of heroes available in the game. While there are four main classes in Fortnite, subclasses allow for far more variety in gameplay when it comes to picking out the exact heroes you want to utilize for certain missions.
Since these hero cards are such a key part of the game, it should come as no surprise that new heroes are headed to Fortnite. Survive the Storm will introduce new hero cards as well as drop in some new defenders. This ultimately means your offense and defense could be getting a major boost, which you’ll need if you want to make it through the new storms included in the update.
More Powerful Storms Are on the Way

There’s a reason we are encouraging Fortnite players to become more well-rounded commanders. Survive the Storm will introduce more powerful storms called Mutant Storms that will be available in a limited time game mode. While the details on just how difficult these storms will be are still rather vague, an official announcement explained that enraged husks would be included in these new storms. It isn’t clear what exactly will make an enraged husk different from a normal one but we have a few ideas. These enraged monsters will likely receive a damage boost that can help them tear through your fort more quickly. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see enraged husks become far more aggressive than others. Imagine a wave of husks heading for your fort but a few enraged husks are far more focused on prioritizing you instead.
This also begs the question—so just how strong will the big guys be in the new Survive the Storm game mode.
Mutant Storms Might Make You Afraid of the Dark

In addition to bringing more powerful undead foes than other storms, Mutant Storms will also come more frequently during the Survive the Storm game mode. The current dynamic between night and day in Fortnite is that husks are often caught sleeping during the day, but a few may start to roam a bit more freely at night. Even then, there’s no real reason to fear the nighttime. Survive the Storm changes things.
Mutant Storms will kick up at night, which force you to get all your scavenging and building done during the day. So keep your eye on the sky because once the sun starts to set you may want to make your way back to the fort before it’s too late.
Modifiers Will Introduce New Challenges

Fortnite is ready to really pack in the challenges this time around. In addition to dealing with enraged husks and more frequent storms, the player may notice some changes on their behalf as well. Survive the Storm will introduce certain modifiers that aim to make each wave of husks harder than the one before it. Only one modifier has been unveiled so far.
According to a release on the Epic Games site, players will have reduced health during some of the Mutant Storms. Survive the Storm is supposed to dish out some serious goodies but it’s clear that Fortnite is going to make you work for it.
Special Items Available to Snag… Like New Hydraulic Weapons

Epic Games won’t just throw a bunch of obstacles your way without giving you a good reason to work hard to overcome them. The longer you survive the storm, the more tickets you will earn for the event. You can earn tickets from the limited time game mode that you can trade in for special weapons and other goods. One of the special items that was revealed in the announcement was the hydraulic weapon set.
Survive the Storm will introduce a total of nine high-impact weapons that are sure to give you the upper hand when facing enraged husks and dealing with new mutant storms. It isn’t clear at this time if these weapons will still be available to earn once the limited time Survive the Storm game modes are over so you may want to grind it out to get your hands on these weapons while you can.
