Fallout 76 has come a long way since its rough release back in 2018. Following the most recent update to Fallout 76, players can now find and use a special item called Legendary Cores to craft Legendary Mods. Here’s everything you need to know on how to get Legendary Cores in Fallout 76, and what they’re used for.
Getting Legendary Cores in Fallout 76
Legendary Cores can be obtained by completing Daily Ops, Public Events and Seasonal Events.
The best and easiest way to farm Legendary Cores is to repeatedly do Public Events. Specifically, you’ll want to take on the tougher Public Events such as A Colossal Problem, Encryptid, Project Paradise and Free Range, as these can reward up to eight Legendary Cores for beating them depending on your performance beating them.
For newcomers to the Appalachian Wasteland, you can see where Public Events are on your map by looking for an ‘!’ icon.
It should be noted, that over on the Fallout 76 official blog, Bethesda has highlighted that Legendary Cores are guaranteed drops at all Public Events, the number of which will depend on which event and your performance.
What They’re Used For
Legendary Cores are part of the new Legendary Crafting system.
With the most recent update, players can use Legendary Cores and Legendary Modules to turn normal items into legendary items, re-roll your existing legendary items’ attributes, and upgrade or downgrade their star-ratings.
To use your Legendary Cores (and Modules), you’ll need to visit Weapon and Armor Workbenches and then open the Modify menu to start the process.
This doesn’t just apply to your weapons and standard armor. It’s also possible to use Legendary Crafting to create pieces of Legendary power Armor. These work in the same way as weapons and armor in that you can upgrade, downgrade and re-roll them.
