Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – How to Hack

Hacking is one of the skills you’ll need to quickly master if you want to progress in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Before you can start hacking, first you need to understand the objective of the hack. Whenever you initiate a hack, your goal is to hack into all of the nodes standing between your starting blue node and the green node. Do note that you don’t have to take control of every node on the grid, just the ones along your path to the green node.

Hit the ‘hack’ button when facing a locked keypad to start the process. Once you capture the first node, the enemy security will be alerted to your presence, and will start tracking you down. You have to capture the green node before the red lines make the way to your blue one. In order to slow down the enemy tracing program, you can also fortify one of your already captured nodes. I advise capturing one node to initiate the enemy trace, and then fortifying that same node before you move on to the rest. During the early hours of the game, you’ll usually only need to fortify one node to buy yourself enough time to complete the hack. But it’s usually a lot safer to fortify two nodes, just in case you mess up your path along the way.

Do note that you can also hack two nodes at once, as long as they’re both connected to a node that you already have control over.
