5 Ways Loop Hero Could Be Even Better

Loop Hero was released on PC about a couple weeks ago, and has since become one of the biggest indie hits of 2021. The game has been lauded for its compelling deck-building and rogue-lite elements, as well as a badass soundtrack that’s impossible to get out of your head.

That being said, the game does have a few shortcomings, and with the developers promising that more quality-of-life and content updates are coming to the game soon, here’s a list of features we’d love to see in Loop Hero.

Clearly Defined Stats and Proper Wording

By far my biggest gripe with the game, Loop Hero features a lot of different stats, traits, and cards that can be worded rather poorly. For instance, Magic Damage is never clearly explained during your early hours, and neither is Magic HP.

On the topic of Magic HP, it acts as a shield for your character that restores between each battle. However, there is a trait that calls it “energy armor,” and if you’re still fairly new to the game, there’s no way in hell you’d know that energy armor and Magic HP were the same damn thing.

There needs to be more consistency between descriptions, and clearer explanations for what each stat does without having to look things up on a wiki or the subreddit.

More Speed Up Options

Loop Hero is primarily an idle clicker/auto-battler style game, which means you can largely just leave the game running on its own, and only pause it if you need to place cards or change your equipment.

The game also features a 2x speed mode, but it still feels far too slow especially if you’re in the earlier loops, or if you’re looking to create an infinite loop cycle to farm resources.

The developers have already confirmed that they’ll be adding more speed up options to the game, which is nice, but until then, you’ll have to make do with 2x. Or mess around with the .ini files of the game, though be warned that this could cause your game to get a little buggy.

Surrendering in Battles

First, it’s worth noting that the developers have also stated that they’ll be adding the ability to save and quit your game in the middle of an expedition. But just to take things one step further, we’d also like to see them add an option to quit an expedition while you’re in the middle of battle.

As you get deeper into the loop cycle of Loop Hero, it’s actually entirely possible to come up against enemies and start a battle that could just go on forever.

Particularly in the latter half of the chapters, it’s possible to find enemies that can heal up consistently and negate any damage you do to them. And if you’re using Necromancer, for instance, or a Warrior with high Vampirism, then you’re looking at a battle that basically never ends.

To counteract this issue, it’d be nice if Loop Hero gave you the option of surrendering in a battle so that you could go back to camp, and not quit the game entirely and lose all resources.

Supply Loadouts

As you continue to upgrade your town and build more structures, you’ll get more supply slots, which can be used to make your expeditions easier with stat and healing bonuses.

However, your supply slot options carry over between classes. Since all three classes have vastly different play styles, it’s not always ideal to start an expedition as a Necromancer with a supply loadout catered to the Warrior, or vice versa.

It’d be nice to have separate loadouts for each class so that you don’t have to keep changing them out constantly, and will allow you to save time and go on more expeditions.

More Cards and Classes

Finally, this is an obvious one that the developers have also stated that they’ll be working on, but we’d definitely like to see even more of what the game is already doing so well.

We want to see more interesting cards with fun effects that synergize well with existing ones, as well as new classes that have fresh play styles that offer even more replay value. And, tying all of these together, we’d also like to see new bosses.

Loop Hero is already plenty robust with its small handful of bosses (and even some secret foes you can encounter along the way), but it’s still a fairly short game that could gain even more longevity with a couple of extra bosses and new cards and classes to play around with.

All in all, though, Loop Hero is very much a fantastic complete package as it is right now, and we’d still highly recommend it if you’re thinking of picking it up. But with these new features included, it’d quickly become one of the best rogue-lite games we’ve played in recent years.
