To wrap it up, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate footage showed off a few new techniques that players will be able to use in battle. These are never before seen moves, combos, or abilities that include:

  • Being able to hit attack to cancel your attack.
  • Press and hold attack for rapid strikes.
  • Can now attack while on ladders.
  • Can dodge while in air for more mobility, referred to as the Directorial Air Dodge.
  • Excessive dodging makes you more vulnerable with a lower duration of intangibility.
  • Can press A and Jump to short hop attack at any point during battle.
  • Perfect Shield needs to be timed more carefully to do it successfully.
  • More damage is done to enemies in one-on-one battles than in battle with three or more players.
  • During battles, the fighter who is winning will occasionally have a sparkle effect behind them so you know who to focus on.

It was also announced Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be compatible with GameCube controllers, and all Super Smash series amiibo figures are compatible with the game along with all amiibo variations of a fighter. Fighter Player data from previous titles can be transferred over to Ultimate this way.
