Plenty of New Pokemon Snap
This one is a gimme. New Pokemon Snap is due out on April 30 and this will likely be the last time Nintendo does a Pokemon-themed event between now and then. While I’m sure they will release new trailers before April 30, this will probably be the right time for a deeper dive.
I expect at least a few minutes dedicated purely to showing off New Pokemon Snap, and describing in detail what players can expect.
So far, the trailers have been a little light on the gameplay front. It’d be nice to see more of how they plan to expand on the idea of the original, as well as confirmation on whether there will be any online features to speak of.
A Helping of Sword & Shield DLC
This one might seem ambitious but I feel pretty confident that Nintendo and Game Freak are going in a new direction with the mainline Pokemon games.
In the past, we would likely expect a sequel or a “third” game around now.
Going forward, though, I believe Nintendo will treat Pokemon as a generational live service game. One new Pokemon game per console generation that will be supported and expanded on (with more older Pokemon crossing over the Galar border).
If the Switch-era drags on very long, or a new “Switch Pro” is announced, then I think that could reset things a bit for a brand new game & region, but for now, at least, I’m predicting more Sword & Shield content.
Mobile Game & Spin-Off News
This is a predictions post, not a wish list. While news about mobile games isn’t going to excite everyone, it’s likely to happen. This could mean updates and expansions to existing and upcoming mobile games. I’d expect Pokemon Unite to show up again for sure.
This could also mean something brand new as well. There will likely be some kind of strange mash-up between Pokemon and some genre we didn’t expect. Any takers on a guess? I’m going go with a class-based shooter. Actually, I think I’d be pretty into that.
Diamond and Pearl Remakes
I mean, this one is obligatory for any Pokemon Presents prediction right? Writers and fans are going to continue to predict a remake of Sinnoh until we will it into existence.
I can’t recall how many Nintendo or Pokemon Directs and E3 Showcases we’re up to now in terms of predicting Diamond and Pearl remakes, but it’s a lot.
It’s an anniversary year, there’s some serious distance from Sword & Shield now at this point, and as I stated above, I don’t think we’re ready for a new generation nor do I think a Sword & Shield sequel or “third game” is on the cards.
If it doesn’t happen tomorrow, I don’t think it’s ever going to happen.
Let us know in the comments down below what you hope to see from the Pokemon Direct tomorrow!
