Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

Nobody would suspect that Ubisoft and Nintendo would eventually team up to bring the Raving Rabbids together with iconic characters from the Mario universe. Even though the idea seemed highly ridiculous, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle turned out to be quite the solid turn-based strategy RPG crossover.

You can choose from the Rabbid forms of Princess Peach, Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, as well as their real selves, to make up your party before you head into battle. From then on, the game plays out very similarly to other strategy games like XCOM, letting you go turn by turn to think about how to deal with the enemies on a map.

Some stages have different goals, like getting to the end or eliminating all foes on the field in a time limit, and since Mario + Rabbids doesn’t demand too much in terms of a graphical sense, it could definitely work on mobile devices if it was just scaled down a little bit.

Instead of exploring the Mushroom Kingdom between stages, the mobile port could just simply be combat stages one after another. Considering that you can take your time between turns, playing on your phone could be the perfect way to pass the time.

GRIS

gris

GRIS is a 2D platformer with no combat at all, with the only gameplay revolving around light platforming and puzzle-solving. It introduces us to a young woman who is tasked with bringing color back to the world around her.

It can be completed in just two or three hours, making it a perfect pick for the mobile market. This emotional short-lived adventure is played best with headphones in your ear and a preferably, while it’s raining outside or something.

GRIS is like a nice cozy book to dive deep into if you’re ever feeling stressed out or just need a game to lose yourself in. Since there are no combat or button inputs that require a ton of gaming skill, anybody would be able to download this title and enjoy it without any prior experience.

Wargroove

Wargroove is meant to be a spiritual successor to the Advance Wars series that Nintendo has seemed to forget all about.

Just like Advance Wars, Wargroove is a tactics-based strategy game that puts you in charge of a number of troops while you take down your enemies on a variety of maps.

The time between fights in Advance Wars gives the player short cutscenes to flesh out the story, with the game putting a focus on the action-packed battles. The writing is also very good with little quips and witty moments to keep the story going.

Wargroove could be a nice fit for mobile devices as there are no complicated button inputs or commands, letting you use your fingers to control your army with precision.

Into the Breach

Into the Breach is an excellent grid-based strategy game that has you controlling powerful mechs from the future to defeat an alien threat.

Each map in Into the Breach is randomly generated giving the player tons of variety. Each challenge is different from the last making this strategy game one that’ll keep you busy for quite a long time.

It doesn’t do anything groundbreaking for the genre that the game sits in, but if it were to come to mobile, this “easy to learn, hard to master” title would make it a great choice for people looking for mobile games with top quality gameplay.

Tetris 99

tetris 99, console games, mobile games

You’ll find plenty of other Tetris games to play on iOS and Android devices, but there’s one version of Tetris that is solely exclusive for the Nintendo Switch and that version is Tetris 99 (the best version).

In Tetris 99, you face off against 98 other players in an intense and exhilarating match of Tetris where there can only be one winner. Your main focus, like any Tetris game, is to line up the blocks to score points, but Tetris 99 adds a deeper level of strategy by allowing you to send off gray-colored trash blocks to other players.

You can choose to send them to attackers, randoms, and to the people who are very close to losing.

Getting to that coveted first place spot is no easy feat, but this Battle Royale edition of Tetris would make for a perfect experience on mobile devices, especially considering how barebones the game actually is. There’s only one game mode, but if you have a few minutes to spare, Tetris 99 would be perfect for those commutes and while you’re waiting at the DMV or something.

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee is an HD reimagining of the classic Game Boy game, Pokemon Yellow. It introduced tons of quality of life changes to the series, and GameFreak made the game very easy for newcomers to jump in and see what’s so good about Pokemon.

There were also elements from Pokemon GO implemented, letting you transfer your Pokemon from the app into the Switch game, allowing you to continue to play with your cherished pocket monsters in a couple of different ways.

The core Pokemon series has never been about super-fast twitch-based gameplay, so a game like this, with slow turn-based combat, would be a nice fit for those looking for a “real” Pokemon experience on their smartphones. And plus, the integration between Pokemon GO and Pokemon Let’s Go would make a lot more sense and just overall, easier to use.

WarioWare Gold

warioware mobile game

The WarioWare series has mostly appeared on Nintendo’s family of handheld systems, with only a few of the titles making their way to consoles. The series is known for fast-paced microgames that usually require the use of a touchscreen, which pretty much all smartphones have nowadays.

WarioWare Gold, in particular, is a love letter to the series rich history, giving players updated microgames from the past as well as a whole bunch of new ones that have never been seen before.

Completing quick, fun, and thrilling microgames on the go could prove to be a success if Nintendo ever went that route. You can have a base package of microgame collections for free, and for just a few dollars, players could purchase different selections of games to try out.

There could also be some sort of leaderboard system to show off your high scores to friends and people around the world. If there’s one long-running Nintendo franchise that deserves a spot on mobile devices, WarioWare should be the first choice.
