5 Nintendo Characters That Are Still Waiting for Their Own Game

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Nintendo’s put out a lot of great games over the years, with iconic characters we all know and love. However, there are five characters that still need their own main game.

Waluigi

We’ve seen him play Tennis, we’ve seen him dabble in Golf and we’ve seen him make Mario’s life a living hell with all of his, and Wario’s, wacky antics time after time.

It’s hard to think about Waluigi without also thinking of Wario, his partner in crime who has actually made a decent name for himself with his multiple spin-offs and franchises. But Nintendo seems to have forgotten about the much taller half of the duo, and this wrong needs to be righted.

Waluigi needs his own spin-off series as soon as possible. It could be a hilarious and ridiculous platformer ala Wario land or even just a mini-game collection like WarioWare –I would literally take anything if this guy’s name is in the title.

Being such a prominent character in the history of the Mushroom Kingdom, it’s shocking that he hasn’t gotten his own game yet –I mean, he’s not even a fighter in Super Smash Bros. for crying out loud!

Princess Zelda

I am just going to preface this section with the fact that Zelda has indeed played a big role in a Nintendo game before, but because Zelda: Wand of Gamelon was a terrible CD-i game that nobody –and I mean nobody– played, that doesn’t count.

So let’s just pretend that that never happened because the princess of Hyrule needs to have her own adventure for once, a good one that can compare with Link’s many trials and tribulations.

Let us take control of the princess and give us access to a toolset that we’ve never seen before. Zelda could use magic or spells to defeat enemies and face a boss that doesn’t have Ganon in the name.

Link has saved Zelda countless times and I would love to see her save Link for once in her life. After all, the name of the popularized series is The Legend of Zelda after all –I don’t see Link’s name in the title.

Tom Nook

Oh, Tom Nook. You know what I realized the other day about this sneaky little raccoon? He is what makes Animal Crossing and he is the sole owner of your debt and your life.

The initial goal in Animal Crossing is to pay this animal back in thousands upon thousands of bells. You have to do odd jobs all the time, sell your precious furniture, and get your hands dirty with your fellow neighbors.

And because of all of these things, I know that perfect game for Tom Nook to be on the forefront of –that’s right– a god game. A game where you can control any and everything around you.

You can sit atop your island in the sky and force the citizens of your town to do whatever it is that you please. It’s kind of like Animal Crossing, but you’ll be able to take over multiple towns and alter anything that you want.

Tired of that annoying Falcon that lives by the post office? Gone. And that chatty squirrel that’s under the bridge? Lost forever (don’t ask).

A god game starring Tom Nook himself would be quite the departure for Nintendo, but it’s 2019 and Tom Nook is just wasting away at his desk when he could be doing bigger and better things.

Bowser

Nintendo characters that should get their own games, spin-offs

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story was the closest we’ve ever gotten to having an actual game starring the powerful and ever-feared king of Koopas. Mario and Luigi wind up inside of the belly of the beast, controlling parts of his body from the inside.

Controlling Bowser in a turn-based RPG format were the best parts of that game and now I’m thirsty for more of that action. How fun and compelling would it be if we got the chance to take over the Mushroom Kingdom as Bowser himself?

I would even be down for a tower defense game or a turn-based strategy game ala Fire Emblem –a game where I can control troops of Goombas, Koopas, and Bullet Bills to take over Mario and Luigi’s home.

I know that sounds kind of evil, but playing as Mario and Luigi all of the time can get a little bit boring. Hold on Nintendo, I’ll even give you a title for my dream Bowser game –are you ready for it? King Koopa’s Empire; the name itself sells the game.

Ganondorf

We’ve stabbed this guy in the head with Toon Link and we’ve struck him with a light arrow more times than I can count with the help of Zelda, but if I told you that I’ve never thought about a Ganondorf-led RPG, then I would be lying through my teeth.

Imagine an action game like Bayonetta or Devil May Cry in which you are using Ganondorf’s immense power to take down a bunch of enemies by performing combos and summoning monsters to his side.

Ganondorf is such a famous villain in Nintendo’s history and while Nintendo usually doesn’t like to put villains at the forefront of their titles, with the exception of Wario (for some reason), a game starring the owner of the Triforce of Power would be incredible.

Wait a second? That’s it, that’s the name! Triforce of Power –you are very welcome Nintendo. I only accept payment in Rupees.

Those are our five picks for Nintendo characters who deserve their own spin-off game. What other characters out there would you guys like to see make it into their own game? Let us know in the comments section below!
