Earlier this year, it was revealed that Kunihiko Ikuhara’s 2011 anime Mawaru Penguindrum would be receiving a movie remake to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Today, we’ve learned that the compilation will actually be two films and that each is set to release at some point in 2022.
The project is set to re-edit all 24 episodes of the original anime while adding in some new scenes as well. You can check out some official promotional images and a brand new video right down below.
The official 10 year anniversary website provided the following information that explains a bit more about the show and the upcoming celebration.
“Penguindrum” was broadcast on TV in July 2011 as an original work directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara.

A new celebration of the 10th anniversary of “Penguindrum” with everyone who has been a fan of the work since the broadcast, and everyone who has come across new works and loved them. We will start the project.
To further commemorate the anniversary, Penguindrum will be airing the RE: cycle of the TV series via King Amusement Creative official Youtube channel, releasing one episode of the Penguindrum series will be every week. A collaboration with Animax Cafe + in Harajuku, Tokyo was announced, which will officially start at the end of July.
