In My Hero Academia, being in U.A. Academy’s Class 1-A is seen as being the very best of the best, as it only accepts students that have really impressive scores, intelligence, and Quirks. As we’ve seen throughout the show, though, the students that make up this class aren’t the only ones that are trying their very best to become pro heroes.
There are plenty of heroes from other courses that were overshadowed, and we think it is time that they get the credit they deserve. These are the seven My Hero Academia characters that deserve to be in Class 1-A.

Juzo Honenuki (Mudman)

At first glance, Juzo Honenuki might not look like an everyday hero, as his skull-like appearance and pale skin might be frightening to some. As soon as you really get to know Juzo, though, it’s clear he is the embodiment of a hero.
As soon as round three of the Joint Training Battle starts, Juzo takes the lead, creating a calculated plan of attack that incapacitates and isolates core members of Class 1-A thanks to his Softening Quirk. This ability essentially lets him turn anything he touches into quicksand, allowing him to control the environment and landscape of the battlefield.
On top of this, Juzo can also swim through the softened material, letting him navigate the area undetected, giving him a huge tactical advantage when it comes to recon. Combine all of this with a calm and understanding demeanor, and a drive to win, and you’ve got a great hero.
Jurota Shishida (Gevaudan)

Jurota Shishida is one of the most promising heroes at U.A. He is the perfect combination of strength, intellect, and evasion. This is on full display during the first round of the battle with Class 1-A.
In this battle, Jurota predicts Koji’s actions and the fact that the team would try to get to Ibara first, giving his team a significant strategical advantage. He also shows off his durability in this interaction, as he is not only able to get over Shinso’s brainwashing considerably quickly, but he also manages to shrug off one of Kaminari’s electric attacks that usually deal some serious damage.
His Quirk in general is just super useful, giving him the ability to transform in and out of Beast form, changing his abilities to either focus on speed or strength. His senses are also sharpened significantly, which lets him sniff out those around him easily, even if they’re camouflaged like Tsu was.
Mei Hatsume
My Hero Academia Characters That Should Be in Class 1-A
Mei Hatsume is easily the most eccentric person at U.A. High School. She boasts a livewire personality and is always looking to create. Ever since we met her during the Sports Festival, it is clear she has a talent for inventing support items.
Throughout the show so far, she has created a jet pack, Kaminari’s disc launchers, and Deku’s iron soles and air force gloves. Any one of these inventions alone would help her stand out, but those are just a few examples of her “babies.”
To go along with her knack for making really useful tools, Mei’s quirk also lets her zoom in on whatever is in her line of sight. When focused, she can see things as far as five kilometers away.
If she were given time to learn some battle techniques, similar to Uraraka, this support hero would fit right in with Class 1-A. It likely wouldn’t take too long either, as her trial and error method of inventing shows she can rebound quickly from failure. Just be sure to have safety measures nearby.
Neito Monoma (Phantom Thief)

Neito Monoma is one of the most (purposefully) annoying characters on the show, as every appearance on screen is accompanied by a rant about how Class 1-A is overrated. To be fair, though, some of his rants are justified, especially when you look at how talented he is.
Monoma’s Quirk, Copy, is pretty powerful, allowing him to duplicate and use another person’s Quirk after coming into physical contact with them. He is able to hold four at a time for around ten minutes. The benefits of this are pretty obvious, giving him a tremendous advantage when working with teams or against opponents.
We see this on full display in both the Sports Festival and Joint Training Battle when he steals from his enemies and borrows from his teammates. This ability essentially makes him the perfect Swiss Army Knife, especially when working with a team.
Kinoko Komori (Shemage)

Kinoko Komori is another one of those characters you don’t want to judge simply based on your first glance. While there is no denying she is definitely kawaii, dressing in adorable mushroom apparel and snapping posses left and right, that cuteness also plays a vital role in lulling her opponents into a false sense of security.
Both times Class 1-A think they have the advantage in the Joint Training Battle, Komori is able to turn the tide. The first time, she simply uses her Quirk to grow mushrooms all over her opponent’s bodies, making it impossible for them to hide or concentrate.
The second time comes right when it looks like Class 1-B is about to lose. This is when Komori unleashes her Little Schizophyllum, causing Tokoyami to start choking, rendering him unable to capture her. This ability alone is enough to make her a powerful hero, as she doesn’t even have to lay a finger on someone in order to close off someone’s airway.
Itsuka Kendo (Battle Fist)

Compared to the majority of Class 1-B, Itsuka Kendo has actually gotten a significant amount of screentime to show off her intellect and abilities. Whether it was interning alongside Yaoyorozu for Uwabami, the battle versus Mustard, or competing in the Joint Training Battle, she has proven that she is both smart and strong.
A great example of her keen intellect comes when battling it out against Momo, as she’s able to predict just about every move the brilliant young hero comes up with, helping lead Class 1-B to its only victory in the contest. Her strength and power also go without saying, as her Quirk, Big Fist, lets her break through most defenses and works as a great capturing device thanks to its size and grip.
If you needed any more reason to like her, remember that she is the one that puts Monoma in his place with a firmly placed chop to the back of his head every time he acts up. That alone should merit a promotion to Class 1-A.
Hitoshi Shinso
My Hero Academia Characters That Should Be in Class 1-A
Anyone that is able to show up out of nowhere and almost beat a show’s protagonist is always someone who should be held in high regard. That is exactly why Hitoshi Shinso is more than deserving of being promoted from the General Studies section of U.A. High School.
Shinso was able to almost one-up Midoriya using his Brainwashing Quirk, which lets him take control of anyone who answers his questions when it’s active. This means he can either render someone completely immobile or can even get them to do what he says.
While this may come off as evil, Shinso vows that he wants to use this Quirk to help people, promising to develop it even more. When he returns during the Joint Training Battle, he does just that, making it even more powerful with the use of a mask that allows him to mimic others’ voices.
He even begins using Eraser Head’s binding clothes while also training his fighting skills to go hand in hand with the new capture device. As long as he can reach his potential, Shinso can essentially be an even more powerful version of Aizawa.
