According to Variety, a new live-action Pokemon series is reportedly in the early stages of development over at Netflix.
The Variety report mentions nothing in the way of plot, and has very few details to share at this moment, but does tie Joe Henderson as a writer and executive producer. Henderson is the co-showrunner and executive producer of Lucifer, a show that originally ran on Fox and was eventually picked up by Netflix for more seasons.
Variety attempted to get an official confirmation from Henderson and Netflix, but neither responded yet as of the time of this writing. While readers should always take these kinds of rumors with a grain of salt, Variety has been fairly reliable in the entertainment sphere.
As Variety points out, Netflix has been the home to other Pokemon content in the past such as Indigo League, so it’s certainly within the realm of possibility for sure.
Kids that started with the original Red and Blue games are now well into their thirties. A show that is live-action, and potentially a little bit more mature than the long-running animated series, or at the very least at the same level as Detective Pikachu, could definitely be well-received by people in their late 20s, 30s and beyond, so it’s definitely not a crazy idea if true.
