New Detective Pikachu Sneak Peek Gives a Closer Look at More CGI Pokemon

Ryan Reynolds tweeted a new trailer of Detective Pikachu early Wednesday afternoon, precisely one month ahead of the film’s release. Marketed as the actual footage of Reynolds’s audition for the titular talking Pokémon, the trailer is actually a screen test animation of other Pokémon, giving us a closer look at the full-blown CGI versions of some not seen in previous trailers.

Set to the tune of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston, the trailer closes in on Jigglypuff, Pancham, Aipom, Dodrio, Venusaur, Eevee, Charizard.

There are a host of other Pokémon too whose shots transitioned too fast they couldn’t give their names aside from Flareon, who appears in front of the statues of Dialga, Palkia and Arceus, and Magikarp.

Psyduck stole the spotlight with a scene in which Detective Pikachu asks if his head doesn’t explode as long as they listen to spa music, which is set to the instrumental muzak version of the late Houston’s greatest hit song of the ’80s.

Detective Pikachu hits theaters May 10.
