Best Movies on Netflix for March 2018

Another new month means that there’s a new roster of movies and TV shows making their way to Netflix. To give you a helping hand in picking out what you should be spending your time watching, we’ve compiled a list of the best movies hitting Netflix in March 2018.

This 1995 Scorsese classic may sound fairly similar in its premise to the director’s Goodfellas from five years prior, but it’s still well worth a watch if you’ve not got around to it yet. The film essentially follows the story of a Mafia enforcer and casino executive battle it out for control of the gambling empire.

A stellar cast featuring the likes of Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Sharon Stone bring their characters to life, making this a must-watch on Netflix for March 2018.

Adventureland

Best Movies on Netflix for March 2018

Some days, you just need one of those classic ‘coming of age’ movies to put you in a feel-good mood, or take you on a trip down memory lane to your teenage angsty years. Either way, Adventureland does a pretty splendid job of doing just that. Adventureland follows the story of James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) as he opts to take a low-level job at the local amusement park in order to raise money for his tour of Europe now that he’s graduated college.

Though initially seeming like the worst decision he could have made, James soon sees the silver lining of his work, namely in the relationship he developers with fellow employee Em (Kristen Stewart). What you’re left with is a charming, feel-good movie that’ll have you smiling fondly over your own summer memories as a kid.

Layla M.

Best Movies on Netflix for March 2018

2016’s Dutch drama, Layla M. tells the story of Layla, a young Islamic woman living in Amsterdam who is subjected to Islamophobia. Over the course of the movie, viewers go through the highs and lows of Layla’s tumultuous life, including her journey away from her family and home. It’s an interesting premise, but one that is brought to life thanks to the incredibly believable performance of lead Nora El Koussour.

A quick word of warning, the film isn’t entirely in English, with chunks of the dialog in Dutch and Arabic. If you’re not a fan of subtitles, this may not be a watch for you. If you can get over this, Layla M. tells a hard-hitting tale of a young woman’s radicalization, and the problems that come with it.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Best Movies on Netflix for March 2018

Breakups suck. There are no ifs ands or buts about it. It can be a hell of a lot harder, though, when said ex is getting all up in your face with their new partner. That’s pretty much the story of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, a romantic comedy that sees Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) heading to a Hawaiian resort in order to help recover from his recent break up with Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). Much to his dismay and disbelief, said ex has arrived at the very same resort with new flame Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) in tow.

Fortunately, Forgetting Sarah Marshall isn’t nearly two hours of poor Peter having his nose rubbed in his own heartbreak. Resort worker Rachel Jansen (Mila Kunis) eventually appears on the scene to provide Peter’s love life with another glimmer of hope.

It’s a goofy film with a fairly predictable storyline and ending, but with ample laughs along the way and solid performances from its great cast, you could do a lot worse than Forgetting Sarah Marshall on Netflix.

Roxanne Roxanne

Best Movies on Netflix for March 2018

Arguably our top pick for Netflix’s best movies coming in March 2018, Roxanne Roxanne had studios in a fierce bidding war following its Sundance Festival appearance in January last year. Set in 1980s New York, the movie follows the story of 14-year-old Lolita “Roxanne Shante” Gooden as she navigates the bustling and often dangerous world of MC in Queens on her rise to the top.

Director Michael J. Larnell has delivered a stylish biopic of the life of hip-hop legend Roxanne Shante, reinforced by a fierce performance by lead Chanté Adams that does the MC legend proud.
