Thousands of Pokémon fanatics gathered on Sunday, August 7th during the annual Pikachu Parade in Yokohama, Tokyo. Despite the parade being pretty popular in general, the launch of Pokémon GO made this edition the most successful one the country has ever seen.
The Japanese went crazy as around 50 adult men and women dressed up as Pikachu to parade alongside the Yokohama waterfront through the scorching summer heat. Seeing how this was the first edition since the launch of Pokémon GO, a large portion of the crowd came by simply to play the app. Hashtag priorities.
“I came here all the way to Yokohama, hoping to find different kinds of Pokémon on Pokémon GO,” stated Teruko Fujisawa, a 45-year-old woman who badly wants to catch ’em all.
According to the organizers, this edition of the Pikachu Parade was not linked to the release of Pokémon GO in any shape or form, but it was expected to be the most popular edition since the launch of the app rekindled society’s obsession with Pokémon.
