With the success of the recent Guardians of the Galaxy game, it has only increased the anticipation for the upcoming film in the trilogy. While there have not been much information shared just yet, director and writer James Gunn saw fit to give fans an update regarding both Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and the accompanying Holiday Special.
This comes via an interview with Collider, Gunn emphasized that progress on the third movie is still “going great,” and the addition of actor Chukwudi Iwuji, who also plays Murn in Gunn’s Peacemaker, has been a delight.
“People are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. Kevin [Feige] went… They were all really, really, really stoked. But also, it’s not going to be the movie people… It’s different than what people are going to expect. It’s a hard road, but I’m really happy with it so far,” Gunn said.
Besides Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Gunn also shared more regarding the Holiday Special. This will be filmed alongside the movie when the schedule is free, but as the pandemic has continued, production has been delayed for now.
“The holiday special is… I’m almost jealous of it, even though I wrote it because people freak out so much on how much they love the script for the holiday special that I’m almost like, ‘Well, wait. I’ve got this movie here I’ve been working on for two years. You love the holiday special that I literally wrote in a very short amount of time,'” Gunn added. “But, it is really funny and really good.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is slated to release in Holiday 2022, while Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is still on track for a May 2023 release date.
