The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, now two years old, will always be remembered for not only shaking up the Zelda formula and giving us total freedom, but for its unique art-style that seems to blend the harsh and darker tones of Twilight Princess with Wind Waker’s cartoony visuals.
But, what would happen if someone were to steal the cel-shaders from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? Well, a YouTuber named Arkh Longstride played around with the game’s settings on an emulator and created a version of Hyrule, stripped of its bright, vibrant colors and shading.
Yup, you guessed it. With these settings –that you can view down below– you’ll see that Link walking around this up-scaled rendition of Hyrule, back in Breath of the Wild time, is just uncanny and looks like some sort of fan-made game in Unreal Engine:
After watching my favorite game of all time stripped of what makes it so special kind of freaks me out, but it’s actually cool to see Hyrule in a different light, and could a neat idea for a new Legend of Zelda game.
Breath of the Wild is now available for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
