Normal teenage student Bianca is surrounded by popular friends in high school but is shocked to learn that she’s the Designated Ugly Fat Friend (DUFF) in her clique. Moreover, she also discovers that she’s just a tool used by other people to grow closer to the other popular girls in her group.
Livid at the idea that her friends were just using her to gain popularity, she decides to cut their friendship and finds herself in an agreement with HS football star Wesley. If you’re in the mood for a movie like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, this is surely it.
Desperate to change her social standing, she agrees to help him pass his class if he goes on a date with her. They seal the deal by forming a fake relationship, with Bianca hoping that her new “boyfriend” will give her the leverage she needs in school.
Both The DUFF and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before dive deep into fake relationships and the slow spark of love that forms in between.
