How to Check Enemy Health in Octopath Traveler
Octopath Traveler, the new Switch exclusive from Square Enix, is a throwback to the JRPGs of yesteryear. In addition to a nostalgic, sprite-based art style, the game also sports a turn-based battle system with a few twists. The boost feature lets you up the power of your attacks or number of times you hit, and exploiting enemy’s weaknesses is the key to coming out victorious. Of course, with such a complex battle system you’ll want a way to check enemy health and find out how you’re faring, especially in boss battles. Luckily, you do have a way to do just that in Octopath Traveler.
In order to see enemy health in Octopath Traveler, you’ll need to unlock the skill Analyze with the Scholar class. This allows you to see the HP and one weakness of any enemy you select. Of course, the easiest way to do this is simply getting Cyrus and getting enough JP to unlock one skill. After that, you can just select the Ability from your ability list in battle. Alternatively, other characters can learn the skill once you unlock the ability to change jobs, and assign them to the Scholar.
If you don’t have Cyrus, or you just don’t want to use the Analyze skill in Octopath Traveler, there is a handy way to see the general enemy health status. When you select an enemy in battle, look at the name underneath their weakness icons. The color of the name denotes what level their health is at. White means the enemy is at full or nearly full health, yellow means it’s about halfway depleted, and red means the enemy is low on health and near death. Using this visual cue can help you coordinate your attacks, especially when you have characters that can’t take advantage of a weakness.
