What is It?
SUPERHOT is a first-person shooter first and foremost. The game will put you in a number of different scenarios and task you with taking down all of the red crystallized enemies making their way towards you. This may seem pretty straightforward, but it’s the gameplay mechanic at the very core of the game that makes it so unique to everything else on the market.
You can play through the Story mode of the game which will see you taking on missions with a bit of explanation in between each one telling you what is going on.
The Game Mechanics
If you hadn’t guessed from the image above, the game’s key mechanic plays with the passing of time. As long as you stay completely still, everything around you will (or will move very, very slowly at least), however, if you start moving quickly then everything around you will move quickly and those bullets will make a mess of your face in no time at all.
That’s where SUPERHOT becomes more than just a first-person shooter. In a sense, it kind of becomes a puzzle game too. Working out exactly how to use this time manipulation mechanic to your advantage becomes an incredibly important part of your thought process as you progress through the levels and going in all guns blazing is almost never a suitable option.
What’s the Story?
SUPERHOT’s story focuses on your use of a .exe program that allows you to play through these Jason Bourne-like action sequences. In doing so, you’re subjected to a number of completely random and differing scenarios that you’re tasked with completing.
Saying much more on the story would give too much away for those who are interested in finding out exactly what is going on, so we’ll let you discover it when the game releases.
When’s it Out?
After successfully being funded within 23 hours on Kickstarter and bringing in over $250,000, SUPERHOT is finally due to release on both Xbox One and PC on Feb. 25, 2016. If you’re sold on the game and are gonna be picking it up on the day it comes out, then you can go and reserve your copy of the game on the SUPERHOT website here.
The site states there are no preorders so we’re pretty sure that the SUPERHOT team will just be sending out a link to purchase your copy of the game when it releases. A handy reminder in case you forget on the day nonetheless.
