Yakuza 6: The Song of Life finally puts a bookend on the story of Kazuma Kiryu. The story picks up directly after the events of Yakuza 5, but it also manages to be just a good a starting point for newcomers. It features a self-contained story that, sure, longtime fans will be able to connect to the other games, but it is one that is also interesting enough to stand on its own as well.

Combat and exploration got a shot in the arm thanks to the new Dragon Engine powering Yakuza 6, and everything in the game is smoother, seamless, and interconnected in a way it wasn’t before. And, of course, it looks a lot prettier too. Also, because it’s a Yakuza game, there are plenty of sidequests, mini-games, and other things to distract you when you want a break from the main campaign.
