When you’ve found the Grandmaster Smith in Blood and Wine, you’ll be able to craft some seriously powerful gear. One of these sets is the Grandmaster Ursine Bear gear, some particularly useful armor for those who are looking to truly bolster their defenses.
The set requires your Geralt to be at level 40 or higher, and provides a bonus to Adrenaline Points gained and a resistance to piercing, bludgeoning, slashing, and monster damage.
The Grandmaster Ursine Bear gear’s bonuses are:
- Bonus for 3 Pieces: A chance to spawn a Quen shield for free after your existing one is broken by an enemy attack.
- Bonus for 6 pieces: Increases the damage of your Quen abilities by 200%
Once you’ve met the Grandmaster Smith and he’s told you of his almighty skills, it’s time to hit the road and get searching for those precious gear diagrams.
Grandmaster Ursine Bear Armor, Silver Sword, and Gauntlets
One of the great things about going after the Ursine Bear set is that you can find all of the different parts in just two locations, unlike the Manticore gear that requires you to go to a ton of different places all over Toussaint.
To grab the first three, you’ll want to make your way to Flovive which can be found just northeast from the town of Beauclair across the other side of the large body of water. When you get there, you’re looking for a red house that has started to sink into the ground. Make your way to the back of the house that is sinking and on the left-hand side, and as you’re looking at it, you should see a bunch of rocks piled up. Use Aard to get rid of these blocks and you’ll find yourself underneath the house. Look to your right and you should see a chest with all of the above diagrams sitting inside. Moving on!

Grandmaster Ursine Bear Steel Sword, Boots, and Trousers
From the sinking red house in Flovive, you’ll want to make your way towards the Cockatrice Inn. If you’ve not already located it on your map, simply follow the marker that is put down once you’ve grabbed the diagrams from the other location. When you reach the Cockatrice Inn, start heading down the road that leads east. Follow it and when it starts to meander off in another direction, carry on running through the grass and woods until you find a little pond. You should see a cave entrance in the rocky outcrop at the back of the pond.
Enter the cave and turn right at the bottom of the waterfall. Here you’ll face a Giant Centipede. Take him down by waiting for him to stay above ground for a little while and give him three or four slices. When you see him curl up into a little ball stop attacking and wait for it to make itself vulnerable again. Repeat this process until the beast is defeated. Follow the path around, drop down the waterfall and then take a sharp left. You’ll want to be prepared for battle here, as a dead end and a giant centipede await you. Use Quen to give yourself a barrier and take your time to whittle away the centipede’s health bar. Don’t let yourself getting penned in otherwise you’re going to find it pretty difficult to fight your way back out.
Once the centipede is defeated, look for the witcher’s corpse on the floor. Loot it to grab the diagrams and complete your set of the Grandmaster Ursine Bear gear. Now it’s off to the Grandmaster Smith to get yourself some fresh threads!
