Pokemon sun and moon features

Pokemon Sun and Moon’s Refresh feature has turned out to be way more fun and useful than players could have imagined. If you still have a bad taste in your mouth from a seemingly pointless and less than rewarding experience dealing with Pokemon Amie, expect something completely different with Refresh. If your Pokemon has high affection for you, you’ll see them dodging more attacks with the help of your shout, shaking off status conditions, and landing more critical hits. It’s a change that makes you feel like your relationship with your pocket partners really makes a difference because, well, this time around it does.

Giving Pokemon High Fives

Pokemon players all across the web were excited to see that they could have a fun interaction with their Pokemon by using the game’s Refresh feature. When playing with your pocket pals, trainers can hold the stylus near their Pokemon’s hands (or paws) to receive a playful high five. It’s such a simple addition to the game but it’s incredibly satisfying and makes you realize just how cool and cute your Pokemon really is.

Mom Has Her Own Room

Pokemon Sun and Moon

It’s the simple things in Pokemon that can really make you feel like developers are paying attention to their longtime fans. In this case, giving Mom her own room was such a simple yet exciting addition for many players. In fact, it was one of the first features about the game that went viral when fans took to social media to celebrate Mom finally having her own space. It’s also important to note that this seems to be the first time Mom really has a distinct personality of her own as well that goes beyond letting her child run around a new region with limited supervision.

Different Time Frames Depending on Which Game

Pokemon Moon

Pokemon games of the past didn’t necessarily change much regardless of which copy of the game you decided to pick up. Outside of a change to the legendary Pokemon you would be searching for and perhaps which bad guy team would be crossing your path, the games were the same. With Pokemon Sun and Moon, however, it seems only fitting that developers made sure Sun buyers clocked in more daytime hours and Moon buyers spent more time running around at night. If you have Pokemon Sun, the game’s time will reflect that of your local region. If you have Pokemon Moon, however, it will offset your time by 12 hours. It’s a simple touch, but still pretty cool.

This Game Trusts You

“Do you want to give up on learning this move?”

Yes.

“Are you sure?”

Yes.

“Are you really, really sure?”

YES

“Are you POSITIVE?”

YES!!!

That’s how Pokemon trainers have felt for years after having to click through two or three prompts every time any decision has to be made in the game. Things are different in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Choose carefully because your first decision is often your last and there won’t be two or three screens giving you the opportunity to change your mind. For new players, it might seem like the safety net would be a nice feature to have, but for those who have played Pokemon for years, it feels nice to be trusted for once.

That Pokedex is Just So Adorable

Your Pokedex has never been something worth mentioning. It captures information and if you’re a dedicated trainer you will spend hours try to fill the Pokedex. Sun and Moon’s Pokedex, however, is already full—of personality. The Rotom-possessed equipment is just downright adorable and seems to get excited about every new step in your journey.

Status Condition Nerfs

There used to be something pretty annoying about having status conditions eating large portions of your Pokemon’s HP. For that very reason, players will likely be excited to see that status conditions like burn and paralysis have been nerfed. According to WWG, paralysis slows a Pokemon’s speed by 50% as opposed to 75%, confused Pokemon have a 33% change of attacking themselves rather than 50%, and burn will only eat away at 6.25% of a Pokemon’s HP per turn as opposed to the usual 12.5%.

The Friendly But Creepy Bar Tender

Pokemon Sun and Moon’s Pokemon Centers now play host to a small bar that can provide players with a variety of beverages and even more beans and rare candy on some occasions. But the items up for grabs aren’t the real star of this little bar—it’s the bartender with a few questionable phrases. If players order the MooMoo Milk, the man behind the car will comment that the beverage is so “mellow, yet rich, that it’ll make you wish your mother were a Miltank.” Awkward, but funny.

All The Subtle Sexual Innuendo

It’s no secret that most of Pokemon’s truest fans are adults who just can’t kick the game from their childhood. It seems like developers took that into account by adding tons of sexual innuendo for adult players to giggle at. At one point, the game shows Kukui’s lab shaking and bumping before he shouts, “Oh yeah, Rockruff! Let’s go! Give it everything you’ve got! My body is ready! Woo!” Not too on the nose, but enough to make players raise a brow. Later in the game, however, a bikini-clad trainer is spotted telling players how hard it is fetch Poke Balls in her bikini.
