4 Things to Do After Beating Ni No Kuni 2

Skirmishes are one of the new gameplay modes that have been introduced in Ni No Kuni 2, and they’re great fun. Sure, there’s not anywhere near as much depth as a full RTS game, but they certainly entertain, and the harder difficulty battles really do require some careful strategy to beat. Puzzlingly, though – not unlike the other aspects of Ni No Kuni 2’s gameplay – the challenge doesn’t really arrive until the game’s final third. In fact, many of the battles you’ll encounter in the main story – including the approach to the final showdown with the Horned One – aren’t actually anywhere near as difficult as the optional skirmishes to be found across the game’s world map. They won’t even really require you to switch up which forces you’re using in skirmishes either. You can simply ace each battle without much thought as to which forces you’re using or what upgrades you’ve applied.

Everything changes when you seek out the harder difficulty battles scattered randomly across the world map. Suddenly, you’ll need to take a much closer look at what sort of upgrades you’re investing into back at Evermore (see the Barracks for associated research). The skirmish mode really shines when there’s more strategy required than simply steam-rolling into enemy forces and relying on your ‘muster forces’ upgrades and reinforcement options. So make a point of going and experiencing these battles at their best once you’re done with the game’s main story.
